Kenya Maritime Authority welcomes new Director-General Martin Dzombo

Munga has a Masters Degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Bremen University of Applied Sciences.

The Kenya Maritime Authority (KMA) welcomed the new Director General, Martin Dzombo Munga, appointed by the board to lead the organisation's operations.

Dzombo succeeded John Omingo, who had served in an acting capacity since July 2020.

Hamisi Mwaguya, Chairperson of the KMA Board, announced the appointment, highlighting Dzombo's extensive global experience in maritime and shipping. He described Munga as a distinguished Naval Architect and Ocean Engineer, expressing confidence in his diverse expertise and visionary leadership to advance KMA's strategic objectives.

Mwaguya emphasised the authority's focus under Dzombo's leadership to bolster maritime safety, security, and environmental stewardship, aiming to elevate Kenya's position in the global maritime sector.

Dzombo, who has a Masters Degree in Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering from Bremen University of Applied Sciences, brings a wealth of international certifications and prior experience from esteemed shipping organizations in Germany and the Netherlands.

Mwaguya commended Dzombo's career marked by involvement in pioneering maritime projects, showcasing his commitment to sustainable practices, particularly highlighting his contributions to green shipbreaking and leadership in Euro Offshore projects.

KMA, mandated to regulate, coordinate, and oversee maritime affairs in Kenya, anticipates a new era under Dzombo's direction, with a strong focus on advancing the nation's standing in the global maritime industry while emphasising sustainability and safety.
